THE SCORPIUS TACTICAL REPORT: 2A NEWS ROUNDUP (03/18/2025)

What’s up guys, coming at you with today’s 2A news that you need to know about. I’ve been watching these developments from behind the counter, and let me tell you – it’s a mixed bag of complete garbage with a few glimmers of hope. Let’s dive in.

🔴 FIFTH CIRCUIT DROPS THE BALL ON SUPPRESSORS

“The court’s reasoning? ‘A suppressor wouldn’t make a good throwing weapon’ – for real? I’m not making this up.”

• Fifth Circuit Court ruled on February 5th that suppressors are NOT protected by the Second Amendment
• Guy named Peterson got raided at his Louisiana home business and slapped with NFA violations for an unregistered homemade suppressor
• The court’s reasoning? “A suppressor, by itself, is not a weapon” and “wouldn’t make a good throwing weapon” (I’m not making this up)
• They completely ignored United States v. Miller which recognizes “proper accoutrements” as protected arms
• The ruling sidestepped Bruen completely, which would’ve been a slam dunk for Peterson since there’s virtually zero historical regulation of suppressors
• Peterson’s serving 24 months in prison for essentially owning a tube that makes guns safer for hearing
• There is hope – the “Hearing Protection Act” was reintroduced this year which would take suppressors out of the NFA completely

🔴 WESTERN STATES GOING OFF THE RAILS

“Even if you live in Nevada like us, these laws will eventually affect your ability to hunt and shoot in neighboring states.”

• Colorado started with SB 25-003 trying to ban semi-autos with detachable mags
• After massive pushback, they amended it to require extra safety courses instead
• Now they’re trying to divert wildlife conservation funds to pay for these classes, putting millions in Pittman-Robertson funding at risk
• New Mexico’s SB 279 is a complete anti-gunner’s wish list – banning semi-autos, standard capacity mags, and creating a gun registry
• Oregon scheduled a “gun tragedy prevention” hearing but only invited anti-gun groups to speak – completely shutting out pro-2A voices
• These laws directly threaten conservation funding since 80% of Pittman-Robertson revenue comes from recreational shooters
• Even if you live in Nevada like us, these laws will eventually affect your ability to hunt and shoot in neighboring states

🔴 ATTORNEY GENERAL BONDI’S MISSING 2A PROTECTION PLAN

“All those promises about national reciprocity, NFA reform, and rolling back Biden-era ATF overreach? Still waiting.”

• February 7th executive order “Protecting Second Amendment Rights” gave AG Bondi 30 days to review infringements and present an action plan
• That deadline passed with zero results or updates
• The DOJ announced a new “working group” to analyze gun prohibitions after the Rahimi case, but no concrete action
• We’re seeing the same pattern of treating the Second Amendment like a second-class right
• All those promises about national reciprocity, NFA reform, and rolling back Biden-era ATF overreach? Still waiting
• The reality is we need to keep pressure on this administration rather than getting comfortable just because “our side” won

💥 THE BOTTOM LINE 💥

Let me tell you what all this means from what I’ve seen behind the counter. These three situations show the same pattern – a complete disrespect for our Second Amendment rights at every level. From the courts refusing to protect suppressors as safety devices, to western states attacking common firearms while endangering conservation funding, to the federal government dragging its feet on promised reforms – it’s all connected.

The reality is we can’t get comfortable. I’ve watched too many customers come in thinking the fight is over because their candidate won, but from what I’ve seen working with shooters every day, the battle is just getting started.

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

1. Call your representatives about these bills
2. Support the groups fighting these court battles
3. Keep the pressure on AG Bondi to deliver on 2A protection promises
4. Get educated about what’s happening in neighboring states – that garbage spreads
